DISCERNING SPIRITS: HABITS OF FREEDOM
with Fr. Christopher Collins, SJ
Fr. Collins is the author of several books on Ignatian Spirituality, focusing on prayer and discernment. He currentlys serves as Vice President for Mission at University of Saint Thomas, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Prior to serving in St. Paul, he spent five years as the chief mission officer at Saint Louis University and became very active in community engagement initiatives related to urban Catholic education, criminal justice reform and workforce development. He is the author of The Word Made Love: The Dialogical Theology of Joseph Ratzinger/ Benedict XVI and 3 Moments of the Day: Praying with the Heart of Jesus. His latest book, Habits of Freedom: 5 Ignatian Tools for Clearing Your Mind and Resting Daily in the Lord was published in 2022.
A Look at the Day: Fr. Chris will offer three talks for input, followed by private prayer/reflection time and a combination of small and large group sharing. We will conclude the day with Mass on campus in Massman Chapel. The below schedule is an estimate of what to expect, please note adjustments may happen on the day of, to accommodate the movement of the Holy Spirit.

3:40pm - Proceed to Massman Hall for Mass
4:00pm – Sunday Vigil Mass - Fr. Chris celebrant
All participants will receive a copy of Fr. Chris Collins latest book, Habits of Freedom: 5 Ignatian Tools for Clearing Your Mind and Resting Daily in the Lord.
Drawing on the wisdom of St. Ignatius Loyola and his renowned Spiritual Exercises, Fr. Chris offers practical spiritual exercises for incorporating five tools into your daily life to help you de-stress, organize your thoughts, and experience the calming presence of Jesus. We will get a chance to practice some of his suggestions throughout our day together. This book will be a wonderful resource for you going forward and a reminder of your day with Fr. Chris.
