THURSDAY AFTERNOONS | OCTOBER 7 - NOVEMBER 11

Join the Ignatian Spirituality Center this Fall exploring the four stages of prayer as shared by Fr. Mark Thibodeaux, SJ in his classic book, The Armchair Mystic. NOTE: We will be holding this indoors in the lower level classrooms at Church of the Ascension and will be following Johnson County COVID protocol recommendations and encourage everyone to wear a mask while indoors. For your safety, Church of the Ascension requires masks if you are unvaccinated.

This is a 6 week long small group experience. You will

  • Learn various prayer exercises to ease from busy minds to contemplating in more peace.

  • Read and pray daily for 30 minutes.

  • Journal your experience.

  • Meet weekly in a group via Zoom meetings to share your experience in community and witness God’s activity in each other’s lives.

  • Be accompanied by two Ignatian prayer guides.

AUTHOR

Fr. Mark Thibodeaux, S.J. is currently the pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Orleans. He has spent many years as a spiritual director to both religious and lay people. The Armchair Mystic is very down to earth and an approachable read. Fr. Thibodeaux gently but progressively moves the reader/pray-er through the several stages of maturing prayer. He uses easily relatable ordinary life examples to help us see how we can come to be with God in prayer and in our daily life.

YOUR GUIDES: Marguerite Enlow and Don Compier

BOOK: You will need to acquire the book before the retreat begins. The Armchair Mystic can be purchased from Franciscan Media, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble.
